Learning to get closer on photography subjects

  • March 6, 2016 / Uncategorized DSC_6650

Lately I have been working on some new photography projects, so it was time for a small update of my website in order to be able to incorporate the new work.

The image on the top of the page I shot last week in Amsterdam, during a short outbreak of snow. I had not been able to shoot images of snowfall this winter yet, so I had to get out! See my Facebook page for more images.

The last months have been super interesting, since I find myself doing more and more event photography and even some portrait shoots. I have always thought of photographing people to be too difficult and personal. Something I would not be good at. But after doing some shoots during events, trying to get up close to people, while staying in some sort of ‘fly on the wall’ mode, I find it increasingly fun to do!

It is taking me a bit outside of my photography comfort zone, in which I prefer to take abstract photos of building, landscapes and street scenes. I am sure I will never stop doing this, but learning how to deal with persons, faces and interactions in my photography work surely is a huge positive addition. Trying to be at the right spot at the right moment is a great challenge during events, but also to be able to tell the story of the event through my photography is something I hope to be able to learn even more in the coming years. Also the interaction with the person of which I shoot a portrait is a valuable learning experience that surely will help improve my street photography skills too.

Well, have a look around on my site and let me know if you like my work.
